Rally Test Report Henstridge Airfield 7th November 2010
Rally Test Report Henstridge Airfield 16 May 2010
The weather was sunshine and showers with a fresh wind blowing across Henstridge Airfield as 17 crews assembled at 09.30 hours on Sunday morning for signing on. There were four double drives making a total of 21 competitive crews.
John J had set a challenging course using the best of the tarmac service road with a number of gravel areas to add excitement. Every one was keen to start but only 5 crews finished the first test without a wrong test penalty. Car 1, Mike and Dean Gray were the fastest in their newly acquired MGZR.

Also on the first test car 11, Billie Sayer and Tom Feather were caught out by the change in surface doing damage to the front end of their VW Polo. There was plenty of help in the paddock to pull the bodywork away from the front wheels and they were able to carry on.

At lunch after 6 tests a total of 7 crews had picked up maximum penalties on all tests by going the wrong way. Car 27, Rick and Eric Hands were fastest in their 1964 Mini 1275 from car 8 Pete Self and Chris Hodkinson in their Peugeot 206.
On the first test after lunch Rick and Eric picked up a maximum penalty and Pete and Chris closed the gap briefly only to fall behind further with 3 maximums on the afternoon runs. No-one else could catch the Mini and they finished 1st overall and 1st historic with Pete and Chris hanging on to 2nd.

Dean and Mike Gray were lying third at lunch and started the afternoon well with the second fastest time for test 7. However they also fell behind with maximum scores on the remaining tests to finish 7th for the day. (Too many bacon butties at lunch Dean!!) Dave Barker and Ian Killeen were lying 4th at lunch in their Triumph TR4 and they improved during the afternoon to finish 3rd overall and second historic.

Dave Harris and John Prior win the prize for the most spectacular driving in the 1969 Ford Escort 2000. They were both enjoying themselves by hanging the tail out on the corners and powering the rear wheel drive ‘round the 180 degree cones. The Escort suffered a puncture in the afternoon, but it did not take long to change the wheel with plenty of help on hand! Meanwhile Mike gets confused by the term “double driver”!

New club member and the only woman driver on the day was Rebecca Langford. The two pictures above show how a charming smile turns to competitive determination when she comes under starters orders!
