With Christmas now behind us for another year our thoughts (hopefully) turn to our marshalling outings of 2012.

 

First up will have been the London to Cape Town World Cup Rally with our marshalling crews on duty in Kent, France and Greece. This event starts in London on the 1st January and finishes at the end of the month in Cape Town South Africa at the end of January.

 

14th & 15th January sees the very popular running of the Carpetbagger rally and requires many marshals for this local night road rally. This is always a very well received event with top UK night road rally crews attending. This event organised by Roger Hunt, Rob & Graham Dance of the Road rally register has already attracted a full entry with competitors from the S & SCC competing including Dick & Mark Appleton, Worth Birkhil and Dave Harris with Pete Self and your truly doing course closing car (see diary dates for contacts etc).

 

28th & 29th January sees the annual running of the K& R stages at Breen Leisure Park. This 2 day sealed surface

stage rally around the narrow and twisty roads of the Breen Sands caravan park is quite a specticle as the cars are run at 30 second starts and lap the caravan park roads. This is well worth a day out marshalling also to see yours truly and Pete (the Chairman Self) out in their first outing for the new Subaru.

 

On a very sad note, that the death of Phil Pavoid just before Christmas many of you will have known Phil as he has attended the Great Bustard Rally many times, and other local and international events. A great loos to the local and international rallying scene are thoughts are with his family at this time of year.

 

The club now has four MSA 81 radio licences with four radios, available for our own events and other clubs events. Their licenced call signs are in "Wessex 1, 2, 3 and Wessex lpha 1. contact me if you would like to know more about these sets and usage.

 

And, finally, I would like to wish all our marshalling members and general club members a very Happy and Safe New Year, and good motorsport for 2012.

Marshalls are required for a section in Kent and Northern France.

Carpetbagger Rally, organised by the Road Rally Register, Traditional road rally, starting and finishing in Sidbury (193/146 962), 170 miles on classic west country lanes, all on map 193.

Weston Rally Sprint, Single venue event at Weston Airfield, Weston-Super-Mare.

28th & 29th January 2012

Club Rallysport West, 2 day single venue stage rally at Brean Holiday/Leisure Park near Weston-Super-Mare.

4th & 5th Febuary 2012

The Festival Rally, 130 miles road rally, on maps 173 and 183. Starting and finishing at Nunney Catch Cafe near Frome.
